PLETT BEACHES

Plettenberg Bay has some of the most beautiful beaches in South Africa, and testimony to this is the fact that Plett has been nominated every year since 2009, and won the title ‘Africa’s Leading Beach Destination’ in 2020 with the World Travel Awards’.

The town’s 35 km of picturesque Indian Ocean coastline features 15 km of pristine, unspoilt sandy beaches. With up to 12-foot waves, the beaches along Plett’s coastline are home to some of the best waves in South Africa.

During the latter half of every year, whales frequent the coastline and make for exciting sights for those on the shore.

Humpback and Southern Right whales are the most common visitors, but killer whales may also sometimes be spotted.

Dolphins can be seen all year round, leaping out of the water or surfing the waves.

Loved by locals and visitors alike, Robberg Beach is made for those long, dreamy walks that seem to go on forever. Stretching 4 kilometers between the rugged Robberg Peninsula and the famous Beacon Island Hotel, it’s a slice of coastal magic. Keep your eyes peeled, you might just stumble across a rare Pansy Shell, the treasured emblem of Plettenberg Bay.

Different parts of the beach each have their own vibe: some are perfect for lazy sun-soaking, others for splashing in the waves, and there are even dog-friendly zones (just check which areas are for on- or off-leash fun).

ROBBERG 5 (also known as Sanctuary beach) is located in the central area of Robberg Beach, this beach is Popular for swimming and sunbathing, also been recognized with a Blue Flag status

THE WRECK is located closer to Robberg Nature Reserve, it is a popular spot for surfers due to its sheltered beach break. However, the main attraction is diving around the namesake wreck just off the coast. While it's a beautiful and unspoiled area, you should be mindful of the resident shark population due to the nearby seal colony in the reserve.

NATURE’S VALLEY BEACH

PUBLIC TOILETS / WHEEL CHAIR RAMP / PARKING

25 km / 30 minutes from Plett Central.

Nature’s Valley is where the mountains, forest, lagoon, and ocean all meet — a wild and wonderful paradise at the heart of the Garden Route. The wide sandy beach is perfect for long walks, lazy days in the sun, or a refreshing dip in the calm lagoon.

On the far right of the beach you’ll find magical rock pools — crystal-clear at high tide and perfect for a day of exploring with booties, a snorkel, and a picnic basket. It’s one of our favorite ways to spend a whole day in the Valley. And if you’re not packing your own picnic, pop into the local 'Blue Rock' Restaurant. Melissa, the friendly owner, makes a mean pizza and will make you feel right at home.

The Groot River Lagoon is on the far left side, the perfect spot for families, with safe swimming, sandy banks for picnics, and endless space for the kids to splash and play.

Bring along a kayak, SUP, or canoe to glide across the still water, or simply float and soak up the tranquility.
